END OF UPDATE (Make sure to still read this post to learn how to use the timeline figures with the timeline I created. It’s all here!)
=====================
Original Post:
I discovered Β Tending Our Lord’sΒ Garden, a blog about homeschooling, with lots of goodies for all of us who follow Story of the World. Mary, her owner, has shared beautiful timeline figures to go along with Story of the World. Β Mary does not only share these gorgeous timeline figures, she also shares notebooking pages, and lesson plans. I downloaded only the timeline figures, which go along perfectly with the timeline pages I created and have already shared with all of you, a little while ago.
So, in order for the whole package to be complete, I put together a little tutorial (video above) on how to print Mary’s timeline figures in the right size for us. Β Her figures would be too large for our timeline sheets otherwise. I believe Mary’s intention was for these figures to go on a wall timeline.
I’m attaching my pinterest board here where I’m gathering all fun world history resources. Thus, ourΒ timeline, Mary’s figures, and other cool stuff is all in there.
Follow Patricia’s board World History Made Fun on Pinterest.
Nevertheless, all the links you need to complete the timeline and timeline figures are here too:
- FREE printable timeline pages, dated, and color coded by historical time periods
- FREE printable timeline figures, created by Mary at Tending Our Lord’s Garden:
Story of the World, volume 1, AncientsΒ (this screenshot helps you know where to click to get the downloads) -
SOTW Volume 2
Story of the World, volume 2, The Middle AgesΒ (this screenshot helps you know where to click to get the downloads)
-
SOTW, Volume 3
Story of the World, volume 3, Early Modern TimesΒ (this screenshot helps you know where to click to get the downloads)
-
SOTWΒ Volume 4
Story of the World, volume 4Β (at the time of this post, volume 4 resources were not up yet. Β The good news is that MaryΒ has a notice with the intention to do so. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.)
- Adobe Reader software. Β Needed to print multiple pages at once at the appropriate size for our timeline pages.
So, I think that’s all you need! Β Big, big thanks to Mary for creating and sharing this wonderful resource. We truly appreciate it. Super Hero and I have enjoyed using these a great deal!
In case you have Story of the World in audio format, and would like to learn how to load it into your iPad, check out my video explaining how to do it. Β We love having SOTW in the iPad, it’s encouraged Super Hero to keep listening at any moment, just because it’s there so readily!
Happy timelining! Β Let me know how it goes π
Thank you for sharing your information!
This was a great tutorial, and just what I needed! I will be sharing on my blog!
I’m glad the tutorial was useful for you! Thanks for letting me know, and happy timelining!
I’m happy you found it great :-)))) Thanks for stopping by and sharing ~
Thank you for showing this. The smaller sized will help me make fit the time line onto the back of a see through plastic table cloth. We used to have a map under their but we recently got a bigger one and moved it on to a wall.
I am ready to print out, but wondered where you bought the horizontal binders.
Hi Rachel, I had a binder from an old checkbook we got from a previous bank account. However, I found one in Amazon just like this: http://amzn.to/2a8VZIN (8 1/2 x 11). There’s a cheaper one here but this is 8 1/2 x 14: (legal paper) http://amzn.to/2asvGgq
Hope this helps and happy timelining π
Thank you for the tutorial on printing the timeline figures in a smaller size!! It was just what I needed. May God bless you!
You’re very welcome Laura. So happy they worked for you!
Thank you for sharing the info about the timeline figures and your timeline! I love your blog!
It doesn’t look like her volume 2 figures is available anymore π Is it just me? I printed 1 & 3 but we are working on volume 2 right now so really wanted those.
Hi Lisa, it appears Mary has taken down the Vol 2 timeline figures. The good news is Super Hero and I have decided to create our own Vol 2 figures to share with you all. Itβll take us a little time to prepare so bear with us. Weβll let you all know when theyβre ready. Thanks so much for your interest!
These are great resources, thank you!
Do you have a link to volume 2 and 4 printable figures, the two listed above no longer work…
Hi Angela, it appears Mary has taken down the Vol 2 timeline figures. She never really had Vol 4 up. I’m sorry to learn these aren’t available anymore. The good news is Super Hero and I have decided to create our own Vol 2 figures to share with you all. It’ll take us a little time to prepare so bear with us. We’ll let you all know when they’re ready. Thanks so much for your interest!

Thank you. I’m 79 and trying to get a better understanding of history. I don’t think it was presented well and I went to many different elementary schools so I would like to tie events together for myself.
So sorry to see the SOTW 2 timeline figures go away. I would love to know when you are finished with yours. We have been searching for the just the right cards to make our clothespin timeline.
I’ll post them as soon as they’re ready!
Found SOTW vol 2 timeline cards on google drive here. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-_T05hMx0CVRGdBaDhKU3oyLU0/view
Looking forward to using these resources!
Yay! Thank you Sahar! Anyone find the other volumes? 1 or 3? I’d love to have all 4 volumes match, but I’m not finding any except the ones Sahar linked to. π
Thank you for sharing!!
do you have a link for the timeline figures for vol’s 1,3, & 4?
Patricia, Thank you so much for sharing this great information on Time Lines. I am new to homeschool this year and will be using SOTW. I would love to download the vol 1 timeline cards but they do not seem available any longer. Do you still have a way to share them? Thanks again for your ideas and inspiration!!
Found Volume 3! π

Anyone seen Volume 1?
Here’s the link to volume 1. The 3 images at the bottom of the post are actually links to Google drive. http://tendingourlordsgarden.blogspot.com/2012/05/story-of-world-timeline-cards.html
Thanks so much everyone for sharing those links – I’ve saved Vol. 1-3 timeline cards, and Vol. 1 and 3 note booking pages, so when we get to them I have them ready. I cannot find Vol. 2 note booking pages though – by chance anyone have a link for those? And when we get to Vol. 4, we’ll check back here and hope Patricia has hers up! π Love ideas on whether to do a binder with a timeline inside, or a wall timeline? The binder seems much easier, space wise, but the wall more intuitive, so we can see it as it grows…
Thanks for all of these and for the tutorial. Has been most helpful. I downloaded all the pages for Volume 1 – just getting started.
Thank you for sharing your hours of hard work – I sure do appreciate it.
Cheers

Hi everyone! For anyone having trouble accessing Volume 1’s timeline cards, I was able to access the blog after adding an “s” after http. When a website has “http” instead of “https” it is not secure.
Try this!

Has anyone found a link to the images for Vol. 4? I cannot find them.
Your print tutorial is so helpful! I had no idea that Acrobat had a multiple printing option! Thank you!
I’m so glad you found it helpful, that was my intention, so happy it worked for you!! Happy timelining π
Thank you for sharing information about timelines! It is wonderful! I’m wondering if you could help me access the blog, Tending the Lord’s Garden. Everytime I go to the site, it shows her blog briefly, but then the site changes to widgetserver.com . I would like to get the timeline images from all 4 volumes of Story of the World.
Thank you for your help.
Hi! I had the same blog earmarked, too sad that the blog is no longer up. However with the same idea in mind, I have found a website which gives you 86 pages for Volume 4, it is free, you have to add and confirm an email. By now you all probably have a subscription only email, if not I suggest you get one so your regular email is not filled with offers. here is the link for the blog:
https://www.learningmama.com/guide-to-using-story-of-the-world-homeschool/
She offers all volumes if you don’t have any and you want things to be similar, but as I have 1,2,and 3 like you all, this vol 4 is similar enough… now I did offer in that blog an alternative for icons if you wanted to make your own. These only have scientific people, but you can choose other types, these are secular pages.
http://www.timelineindex.com/content/search.php?pageNum_rsSite=2&totalRows_rsSite=205&s=Scientists&sb.x=0&sb.y=0
Hope these help!
