Moving Beyond the Page 6-8 – Concept 1, Unit 1, Lesson 10: Communities Change
Today we studied the meaning of history, natural resource and human resource. We learned how communities change as time goes on. MBtP selected the classic book “The Little House” by Virginia Lee Burton to convey the idea of change over time. It was a delightful story. AA couldn’t help feel the emotion of the little house’s transformation: From being at a core of a lovely rural area to finding herself crammed into a crack of a buzzing city full of high rises, metrorails and hurried people.
After reading the story we answered questions evaluating what ‘progress’ and ‘change’ means in a community. We created a seasons wheel, made lists of natural and human resources found in the community, and classified items that are found in urban or rural areas.
Thanks so much for so generously sharing your and your son’s journey. We’ve recently purchased our first MBTP curriculum (we’re still on 5-7) and it’s great to see MBTP ‘at work’. You’re giving me some great ideas – thank you!
Hi Rochelle,
I’m so happy you found some great ideas from my blog. So good to know 🙂 We’re really enjoying our MBtP 6-8 curriculum so it’s fun to share what we’re doing on a daily basis. We actually do much more than just MBtP and I think I will start to mention at least briefly what we’re up to each day or week. I wish you the very best with your MBtP and homeschooling!
