Moving Beyond the Page 6-8 – Concept 3, Unit 1, Lesson 2: Cardinal Directions

Today we went over directions and locations on a map: north, south, east, and west. AA was already familiar with these concepts so we really just reviewed them and enjoyed the fun games today’s lesson provided. We used the iPhone’s compass to figure out where north was in our living room. We marked all the cardinal points and then AA followed directions: Go 3 steps, 5 steps west, etc. The most enjoyable activity was indeed the treasure hunt. AA was able to locate some ‘treasures’ I hid earlier for him. No matter how silly the treasure, AA always gets a kick out of hunting for them 🙂 AA also had to follow instructions on a map and determine the location of certain landmarks relative to one another.

Shiver Me Timbers!

For the last activity about pirates navigating the ocean AA decided to dress up with his pirate outfit. He wrote his story as usual: inside our makeshift tent. Notice too, we had a quick visit to our hair dresser in between lessons today! Gotta love homeschooling for all this flexibility 🙂
