Homeschool Enrichment Classes Mini Semester at PATH

Little Book Worms-this class will involve preschool to K children in literacy based activities in order to enhance their reading readiness, and love for books! They will be exposed to oral and written language, pictures, play, and vocabulary. We will also use music and arts and crafts to motivate the children to enjoy letters and sounds. I will also involve the children in discussions about the story in order to build on their high-level thinking as they speak. Also combining oral language with printed words help the children understand the written language, and makes the learning process fun!

Famous Scientists and Their Experiments
with Katie Gonzalez
contact Katie
recommended ages 7 and up

Get ready to go back in time and study the amazing scientists that changed our world! We will start with Archimedes and Archimedes Principle as we experiment with the relationship between buoyancy and displacement. Students will experiment with a radiometer, as they study the work of Sir Isaac Newton and Sir William Crooks. We will combine the works of Benjamin Franklin, Jean-Antoine Nollet, and Michael Faraday on electricity when we build and test a Faraday Cage. Students will study the work on radios of Nikola Tesla and Guglielmo Marconi as they build a radio. Lester Pelton patented his Pelton Turbine and paved the way for hydroelectricity… students will experiment with hydropower. And finally… (for added fun!) we will study the history of ice cream, the science of Root Beer, and the invention of the Root Beer Float!!!

I tried to organize this class so that each day of class students could bring home their experiment. It was not cost effective. Instead, I will be ordering several kits for them to work in groups for experimentation. The class fee is higher than usual, because these kits are costly and supplies are approximately $30.00 per student. However, on the last day of class, I will raffle off the kits so that each student goes home with something!
Please preregister by April 23rd so I can receive the materials in time!
$70 per PATH member/$75 per non-member
