Freezer Meal Plan Membership: MyFreezEasy.com
“So, what’s for dinner?” –asks Roberto on his way back home after a full day’s work. “OMG! I forgot to get anything prepared. Nothing’s even on my mind!” My thoughts race hunting for a decent answer… yet again! If that’s ever happened to you, you know the feeling: tis not fun! Not to mention, those slip-ups do become costly, (gotta run to the closest drive-thru.) And even worse, unhealthy for the entire family. So what’s a wife & mom to do?
Enter the world of freezer meals –the solution I’ve been searching for. Freezer meal planning promises to be an incredibly useful and effective practice for the meal-planner-challenged. My family has had the good fortune of receiving a free year subscription to MyFreezEasy.com Freezer Meal Plan Membership. In exchange, I’m now sharing my thorough and unbiased review.
What’s MyFreezEasy All About?
MyFreezEasy provides you with an ample selection of menus from which to choose your meals each month:
- traditional
- gluten-free
- all chicken
- all ground beef
- all pork chops
- slow cooker
- clean eats
- 20 meal plan
Each plan includes 5 recipes, doubling each yields the 10 meals in the plan. Each month the system will provide you a brand new menu per category. For example, here’s what came up in October 2016’s Traditional Meal Plan:
- 1. Chicken & Ranch Macaroni
- 2. Red & Green Chicken Enchilada Bake
- 3. Stuffed Sweet Potatoes {Filling}
- 4. Bacon Cheeseburger Nachos
- 5. Italian Sausage Pasta Skillet
If you don’t like what’s included in that month’s menu, you’re free to swap recipes from a tidy recipe bank. Thus, you’re not “stuck” with the meals should they not sound appetizing to you.
Once you make your final recipe selection the system generates shopping lists, and step-by-step instructions to pack those meals into your freezer. You can use shopping lists sorted by recipe or by supermarket aisle. Naturally, both contain the shopping for all meals. The prepping instructions, also grant you two options: prep by recipe or by category. The meal assembly page ties it all together. And lastly, the labels which affix to the ziplock, contain the final thawing and cooking instructions.
MyFreezEasy Premium Membership allows you to pick 2, 4, 6 or 8 servings per recipe. Likewise, you can customize meals and store your favorites. The Basic Membership lacks this flexibility (4-serving meals only,) which I suspect may be crucial for some families, especially large ones.
The Premium Membership costs $10 monthly or $95 yearly. The Basic goes for $7 or $77, respectively.
Our Experience with MyFreezEasy
One thing I’ve learned about living with two finicky men is to let them choose the recipes. I eat pretty much anything that comes my way, as long as it’s healthy. Super Hero and Roberto … not so much! (Read a bit picky, and picky, picky, picky!) So, Super Hero pretty much decided on the meals. We first looked at the default menus, none of which enticed him. Fortunately, we could swap around. The website made changing meals very easy. All we had to do was glance through the collections organized by categories and choose any five recipes. Then we clicked print and download.
I must say that the instructions were spot on. Everything from printing and getting organized was effortless. Erin Chase, MyFreezEasy’s brain and brawn, also includes a lot of videos with helpful ideas and tips. Since Super Hero loves to cook, he was eager to help. We prepared the following first batch of recipes:
- 1. Bacon Cheeseburger Chili
- 2. Baked Swedish Meatballs
- 3. Garlic Parmesan Pork Chops
- 4. Lemon Dijon Salmon
- 5. New Mexican Chicken Lettuce Wraps {Filling}
MyFreezEasy’s claim is to spend 1 hour prepping and assembling the 10 meals. Remember, that is 5 recipes, doubled. Alas, it took us nearly three hours to get it all done. That’s quite a bit longer than advertised. And that’s with an extra pair of hands –Super Hero acted as a bona fide sous chef. To be frank, I was anticipating that kind of timing. It’d be nearly impossible to assemble a double batch of meatballs, dip and bread 12 pork chops (and a couple more), and 3 other doubled recipes in 30 to 35 minutes. That’s what the “Meal Assembly” phase was supposed to take. Had we only picked recipes like the Lemon Dijon Salmon, with hardly any ingredient manipulation, then finishing in 1 hour would have been much more probable.
Although 3 hours is about the most I’d be willing to spend in the kitchen at one stretch, I still feel it’s worth the effort. Knowing I have meals prepared with little to do afterwards to feed my family is extremely refreshing.
In the future, I need to be a bit more careful with our recipe selections. I shall make sure nothing takes too long a prep time, or if it does, perhaps I can reorganize our assembly sessions somehow. Thanks to MyFreezEasy’s excellent information packets, I trust this can be accomplished with just little preplanning.
I love the idea of having my freezer stocked with prepared meals. I look forward to my next session. I’ll be sure to steer Super Hero into choosing healthy, nutritious recipes that won’t be too demanding. I appreciate that MyFreezEasy makes it possible for me to have dinner ready within budget and no stress or last-minute anxieties.
