Moving Beyond the Page 6-8 – Concept 1, Unit 1, Lesson 9: Different Communities
Today we learned about the differences and similarities there exist among the communities of the world. AA picked Mexico for his country research (actually, he wanted to research all of the countries, but due to obvious time constraints, we settled on Mexico).  He placed the common and different aspects of Mexican and American cultures in a Venn Diagram. He organized his research into categories such as food, clothing, holidays, homes, etc.  He drew pictures of a Mexican child and one of himself with several details about their own Mexican vs. American lives.  And finally, he created an acrostic poem for the word MEXICO.

Wake Up, World!
For bedtime that evening we read the book “Wake Up, World! A Day in the Life of Children Around the World” by Beatrice Hollyer. AA really enjoyed this book so much that we could hardly put it down.  He decided he wanted to get up earlier than everyone else the next morning so that he could prepare breakfast for all of us, as a couple of the children in the book did.  It was really a very enjoyable book that blended perfectly with this morning’s lesson of Different Communities around the world!
